Historic Wimborne

Wimborne

From river valley to market town

A volunteer-led community interest company

Long before there was a town, there was a river valley. Neolithic and Bronze Age people left their mark on the landscape, the Romans built a legionary fortress on its edge, and a Saxon minster grew into a market town. Historic Wimborne exists to research, interpret and share that story.

Our purpose

Our aims are to research, share and connect.

Historic Wimborne is a volunteer-led community interest company. We exist to promote public education and engagement in the history, archaeology and heritage of Wimborne and the surrounding area, for the benefit of the whole community: residents, visitors, schoolchildren and the historians who help us get the details right.
